Developer Michael Medley let us know today about his script for embedding Facebook videos outside of Facebook and downloading them to your computer. As you know, Facebook is currently focused on video sharing between friends, and doesn’t supply an embed option: the Facebook Video Greasemonkey Script (requires Firefox and the Greasemonkey extension) adds an embed code next to those clips. It also allows you to download and convert the videos.

Of course, it’s something that Facebook could easily fix itself: just offer a check box that uploaders can select to create an embed code (a download option may be trickier in legal terms). If you don’t want your video shared outside of Facebook, don’t check the box. Presto…more viral growth for Facebook.
